Create a job on the mobile app

Capture work with or without a customer, enter the site address, and confirm the original save before creating another job.

Before you start

Confirm your email and sign into the intended business with permission to create jobs. Check the active business before entering customer or site details; changing the public website country does not switch your signed-in business. Prepare a useful job name and the work-site address. A customer, schedule date and fixed-price estimate are optional; a Field seat does not gain Office creation permissions by opening this guide.

Plan eligibility, business features, permissions and device support still apply. Reading a guide does not grant access.

Step by step

  1. Open Jobs and choose New job. Use New quote only when you intend to prepare an estimate; a quote and a job are different records.
  2. Enter a recognisable job name, such as Office entrance paving. Choose the existing customer, add a customer, or leave No client — add one later selected.
  3. Check SITE ADDRESS after choosing a customer. With Site address is different from the customer’s address turned off, it follows the selected customer address. Turn it on to enter a different work site, or to supply an address missing from the customer. Without a customer, enter the site directly. Selecting another customer can replace the default site address, so review it again before saving.
  4. Enter the street number and name, unit or building where needed, locality and postal code. For a US site include the state and ZIP code; for Canada include the province or territory and postal code; for New Zealand include the suburb or locality and postcode. The address is one text field: an Australian placeholder does not require an Australian address or state.
  5. For available online suggestions, enter at least five address characters and choose only a matching site. Suggestions follow the active business country, not the phone’s location. If the list is empty, keep typing the full address manually; selecting a suggestion is not required. Local address coverage and connectivity vary, including for NZ, US and Canada.
  6. Use a recognisable job name for the initial work description. Add any further scope notes on the saved job where permitted; the ordinary New job form does not have a separate scope-notes box. If scheduling now, use the displayed YYYY-MM-DD date format, including in the US and Canada; otherwise leave it blank.
  7. Leave FIXED PRICE blank when the amount or currency is uncertain. Where your installed app labels the amount with the active business’s three-letter currency code, check that code against the business you intend before typing. Older versions can show only a dollar symbol, and a dollar symbol alone does not distinguish NZD, USD and CAD. If the app asks you to review or re-enter the price, enter it again in the displayed currency rather than reusing a figure typed for another business. This optional figure is recorded as a fixed-price note; it does not create a priced quote, invoice or tax calculation. Review the active business and the later commercial document before quoting or invoicing.
  8. Tap Create job once and wait for the outcome. A confirmed online creation opens the job. A saved-on-device or waiting-for-confirmation message requires the recovery checks below.

Worked example

An office user in a Canadian business captures a paving enquiry with No client selected. They type the actual work-site address, including its province and postal code, and leave the price blank. After the original save is confirmed, they reopen that job and record its scope. If the drawing specifies feet, they select Imperial (ft) in the calculator even though the Canadian business starts with metres. They record 10 ft × 12 ft = 120 ft² with the units, then separately review a quote; the calculation and job note do not create one.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer testimonial.

Check the result

Refresh online, reopen the original job and confirm its job number, name, site and business. A typed or suggested address is not proof of a correct job-map pin; New job stores the address text, not the suggestion’s coordinates. Check the actual work location before travel or dispatch. Before invoicing or contacting the customer, complete and review the customer details.

Limits and troubleshooting

  • If the response is uncertain, use Job save → Check original save. Restore saved details recovers the earlier input; Open original job opens a confirmed result.
  • Keep earlier save and start a separate job is for genuinely separate work. It is not the normal retry button. An uncertain response can mean the server saved the original even though the phone missed its reply.
  • If creation is unavailable, check business access and limits with the owner. If suggestions are absent, manual entry remains available; do not select an unrelated address to make the form proceed.
  • Keep unit numbers, rural delivery details and postal codes in the site text where needed. Do not change the business country merely to obtain an address suggestion: that also affects other business settings. Ask the owner to check the intended business instead.
  • Before switching businesses, resolve or retain the original Job save attempt in its own business. After a switch, recheck the business and customer; a previous address, cached row or device map centre does not prove the new business’s location.
